Quella della At Hand Production, non una vera e propria band, bensì un gruppo di talentuosi polistrumentisti e compositori di Philadelphia, è una poetica tanto particolare quanto ambiziosa, poetica volta ad approfondire la fenomenologia dello stretto rapporto che lega parola, musica e video, poetica che ritroviamo sintetizzata al meglio in questo Prophecies of War. Guerra, come il titolo suggerisce. Guerra che viene analizzata e reinterpretata artisticamente attraverso la combinazione tra jazz improvvisato, progressive rock e musica classica e discorsi presidenziali o lettere dal fronte lette da estemporanee voci narranti.
Una rielaborazione fondata sull’accostamento tra l’emotività suscitata dal rumore dei bombardamenti e le atmosfere dilatate, oniriche e a tratti incisive della componente musicale.
Un approfondimento del più grande errore/orrore umano che, più che farci riflettere sul tema della guerra in sé, ci rivela quanto terribili e inquietanti potessero essere Miles Davis o John Coltrane.
Certo, qualcosa manca. Il disco di fatto ci propone un’opera mutilata, priva di una componente necessaria, ovvero il video, le immagini che scorrono sul maxischermo in perfetta simbiosi con tutto il resto. Motivo per cui il voto alto lo meriterebbe solo l’intera performance, quella a Philadelphia del 2002.
Ci rimane solo valutare Prophecies of War come assaggio-preludio di qualcosa di molto più ampio, esteso ed emotivamente (ma anche intellettualmente) coinvolgente.


The poetic of At Hand Production, not a band but a company of talented musicians and composers from Philadelphia, is as particular as ambitious, for the reason that has the purpose of deepening the phenomenology of the strict relationship between word, music and video. We find this poetic better summarized in Prophecies of War.
War, as the title suggests. War artistically analyzed and reinterpreted trough the mix of jazz, progressive rock, classical music and presidential speeches or letters from the front read by extemporaneous narrative voices.
A performance based on the feelings aroused by the juxtaposition of the sound of the bombings and the ethereal, dilated and, sometimes, incisive atmospheres.
A deepening of the biggest human mistake / obscenity that, rather than let us think about the theme of war, shows us how terrifying and disturbing Miles Davis or John Coltrane could be.
Of course, something misses. The record give us a product mutilated, without an important component: the video, the images that run on the screen in perfect symbiosis with music.
This is the reason why the best mark should go only to the entire performance, the one in Philadelphia in 2002.
We could only value Prophecies of War as a taste-prelude of something bigger and emotionally (but also intellectually) more involving.
